In traditional link swapping, you place the link of other website at your site and in return other site will place link back to you. So if many such links are present where you have direct link exchanges search engines will spot it quite easily and term your site a friendly with those site and hence will not pass on the value of all those back links, as it would have done had they thought these links as being natural. The concept and proper implementation of 3 way linking brings good old days back when linking used to be more natural.
3 Way Link Exchange is somewhat similar as two way link exchange but instead of putting link directly of another website pointing to your site you put it through another site of yours i.e. NO two websites link to each other in this kind of a setup.
The Three Way Link Exchange is used in cases where linking is between more than two WebPages. Consider page A is linked to page B and page B is linked to page C but page B is linking is not linking back to page A and neither the page C is linking back to page B but page A is getting link back from page C. To sum up the confusing schema what we can say alternatively is that no two sites are putting a link back to each others site rather they use a third site to help the cause of 3 way linking.
Why do we need 3 way linking?
The need arises in multifold as normal link exchange is loosing its importance with changing SEO world and still we need to be recognized on the web. Say you have more than two websites and one of those websites is not that popular and you are working on it to increase its page rank OR popularity OR search engine ranking OR all of these. Lets say the two websites are A and B. Your first website “A” is popular one that is having number of back links and good page rank, next your second website “B” is fairly new one and this do not have more back links and good page rank. For increasing link popularity of “B” your link exchange partner will put link for “B” through his site and his site will get a back link from your first website “A”.
Although in terms of search engine optimization link exchanging is beneficial and search engines do think that these links are ‘natural’ one. Linking to other website is the most important aspect of internet these days and internet is completely based on millions of links. Three way linking can help you in making reciprocal linking more spontaneous and natural.
Importance of 3 way link exchange
- In the usual reciprocal link exchange you place the link of other website at your site and other website will place back at your site. So if many such links are present at your site going in out, search engines will notice that easily. So search engines will not count your every reciprocal link and your page will not be increase by such reciprocal links.
- By using 3 ways link exchange your reciprocal linking will look more natural.
- 3 Way Link Exchange can be very beneficial if you have a website whose page rank is good and have number of link, you can use the popularity of your website to increase the page rank / popularity / SERP of your other newer website(s).
- The 3 way link exchanges seek out permanent, solid links for you this will help you in attracting more traffic and increasing the quality of your site.
- Your 3 way link exchange can be at its best when every site on the network of partner’s site is very specific to topic searched by user. This will pass on a strong message to search engines that you do value all your links and they will look at your website with more respect and show more love to your website by placing it higher in search results.
