Football Freestyle Competitions

POSTED BY admin on Feb 2, 2008 under Recreation and Sports

Before you read this you will hopefully know what Football Freestyle is, if not - basically Football Freestyle is all about doing amazing tricks with a football!

There have been several freestyle competitions through the last years. Most of them are national and pretty unknown. Maybe some one arrange a competition some where in London and doesn’t promote it very well, then there won’t be a big crowd and there will not be many good freestylers entering. But there has been some big competitions, here I will tell a little bit about them.

Masters of the games - A football freestyle competition and also a Panna competition(Panna is a game you play 1vs1 or 2vs2. You win by doing a panna on the opponent, a panna is to put the ball between his legs. You also win if you have scored more goals before the time runs out and there have been no panna in the game). I will concentrate on the Freestyle competition here.

The sport was not as big as it is today in 2003, which is when this competition took place. Some of the worlds best freestylers were invited. Abbas Farid, Abdullah, Touzani and Mr.Woo are all well known and all of them participated. When the day was over there was one winner. The famous Mr.Woo won and got the title “worlds best freestyler”.

The time went by and in winter 2006 a new world championship was arranged. Now the sport had evolved more and the freestylers was at a much higher level then they were 2003. Among the invited freestylers you could see names as Palle, Nam the Man, Abbas Farid, Mr.Woo, Touzani and many more. Not all of them could participate though.

Masters of the game 2006 - Good competition with freestylers from all over the world. The final battle were fought by Mr.Woo and John Farnworth. After absolutely amazing performances from both of them there was one winner and one winner only… John Farnworth. A new world champion was crowned the 27th December 2006.

Hopefully there will be a new world championship in 2007 as freestyle is growing. Maybe there will be a new champion then, let’s wait and see what happens…
