Music Heals the Brain as well as the Heart

POSTED BY admin on Apr 27, 2008 under Uncategorized

We all know that music can change our mood. Research shows that music can also change our physiology.

As a violinist and collaborator on a lifetime of music projects, my deepest hope has always been that my music will bring joy and relaxation to listeners. It surprised me at first, and has since brought me great satisfaction, to learn that many healers, from Dr. Bernie Segal to Dr. Joan Borysenko, have used my musical interpretations to assist in relaxation and guided imagery.I’m therefore fascinated when I read the results of studies that push our boundaries of understanding our brains, stress, and the effects of music stimuli on mental states. There was a one-day symposium at Stanford University in May of 2006  that gathered ethnomusicologists, musicians, and scientists to discuss the , music can enhance every activity and balance every mood.

POSTED BY admin on Apr 23, 2008 under Hobbies

Cigars have long been associated with the rich and powerful, with
relaxation and rich flavor.  Cigar aficionados have created a culture
around the art of smoking, assembling various theories and accessories
to debate and facilitate smoking.  Much like wine tasting, cigar
smoking has been seen as a diversion of the upper echelons of society.

How To Have Restful Sleep

POSTED BY admin on Feb 16, 2008 under Health and Fitness

It is generally recommended that we get six to eight hours restful sleep per night. Restful sleep means that you are able to drift off into sleep easily and sleep well through the night. If you need to go to the toilet in the night you are able to go back to sleep. When you wake in the morning you feel energetic and ready for the day. If you feel tired, lacking in energy or tense when you wake in the morning you haven’t had a restful sleep.

Breathe Your Stress Away

POSTED BY admin on Jan 14, 2008 under Self Improvement

Stress increases heart and breathing rates as well as increases the bodies demand for oxygen. Rapid shallow breathing decreases the efficiency of oxygen delivery to your brain, muscles and the rest of your body and inhibits the clearing of carbon dioxide (a metabolic waste product) from the body. Lack of oxygen causes increased anxiety, poor mental concentration and inhibits growth and repair of tissue. Learning to control breathing is one of the best ways to control stress and to assure your cells are receiving adequate amounts of life giving oxygen while ridding the body of toxic waste products. Controlled breathing is in itself an easy and time efficient relaxation and is the prerequisite to other effective relaxation techniques such as meditation, guided imagery, and progressive relaxation to name just a few.
